Medical Imaging
The Medical Imaging project, led by Prof. Jamshid Dehmeshki (pictured) at Kingston, is now making good progress in Phase 2. The project aims to produce a solution to the problem of sharing annotated MRI images online. In Phase 1, two prototype systems were produced. Phase 2 is creating an operational system from the more promising one of these. Previously, MRI images had to be exchanged on CD-ROMs, which placed a practical limitation on the extent to which researchers in different locations could share annotated versions of the images. Annotations are used to highlight areas of interest, such as probable sites of cancer. Other researchers have managed to share raw images online, but not annotated images. Already, this project has produced two prototype systems, demonstrating the technical feasibility of the concept. The figure shows the user interface of one of the two prototypes.
