The Institute of Leadership & Management in Health (ILMH) is a hub for research services, consultancy and leadership development. Members come mainly from the Faculty of Business and Law at Kingston University, the School of Management at Royal Holloway and St George's, University of London.
The provision of healthcare services has become characterised by high demands on service, constrained by limited budgets. As a result, calls for leadership development by healthcare organisations continue to rise. ILMH is well placed to meet this growing need.
Research and Consultancy
At the heart of ILMH's work lies research, results of which have been published in leading journals such as The British Journal of Management, Human Relations and Public Administration. Current projects funded by, amongst others, the National Institute for Health Research Service Delivery and Organisation Programme, include: leadership, self-care, clinical networks, decentralisation & performance and medical regulation.
ILMH works in partnership with consultants and practitioners from the public, private and voluntary sectors to address the management of change in healthcare organisations.
MSc in Leadership and Management in Health
The Institute aims to advance the evidence base of leadership and management practice through innovative research, publications and teaching across inter-disciplinary boundaries. The Masters programme is at the centre of ILMH's ambition to become a major provider of high quality research, informed management and leadership education.
ILMH is an accredited provider of leadership development courses for the NHS. In addition to its flagship MSc programme, the Institute offers tailor made, short courses.
Knowledge Exchange
The Institute promotes the exchange of knowledge and ideas through a series of publications, research seminars and the Managers Forum, an informal network of healthcare managers.
Information on ILMH, including details of current projects and courses, is contained in the Institute's brochure. A copy of the 2008/09 ILMH annual report is also available. Any queries should be directed to: ilmh@swlacademicnetwork.ac.uk.
