The School of Management at Royal Holloway, University of London, together with the Centre for Public Services Organisations (CPSO), offers a packed schedule of seminars and study events for the academic year 2007/2008. Among recent events were: "Professions and the Pursuit of Transparency: two cases of professional involvement", which took place on Wednesday 14th November, and "The Problem of Perspective: Dealing with Multiple Cultures in an MNC", held on 29th November.
'Learning Lessons from outside the NHS? What can the NHS learn from other public services?'
14th May, 5.30pm-7pm is the date for ILMH's next Leadership Forum. This will explore the ways in which NHS clinicians and managers can learn lessons about leadership and management. It will draw on the knowledge and expertise of two chairpersons of NHS Trusts: Aileen McCleish (Chair, Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust) and Mike Gretton (Chair, Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust). Julie Dent, former NHS Chief Executive and Visiting Profesor at Royal Holloway, will chair the event.

February 5th is the date for the next Leadership Forum. Fiona Wise, Chief Executive of the NW London Hosptials Trust and Gail Wannell, Chief Executive, Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust will be speaking about "Leadership - making the transition". CPSO: New seminars for 2009

The series kicks off on 15th January 2009, with a talk on 'Evidence-Based Professionalism: Operational Measures and Occupational Honour', by Prof. Charles Bosck, Professor of Sociology, University of Pennsylvania. 'Leadership, Innovation and Communities of Practice: A virtual and real world workshop' 8th October 2008
The Leadership Academy for South East England is running a face-to-face workshop on 8th October 2008 at the Open University. It is also facilitating an online discussion forum which will run from 1st-8th October. Key speakers include Etienne Wenger, known for his work on communities in practice.

ILMH's Dr Mark Exworthy gives evidence to Health Select Committee on NHS Foundation Trusts
On 3rd July 2008, Dr Mark Exworthy gave verbal evidence to the House of Commons Health Select Committee as part of their enquiry into NHS Foundation Trusts. The presentation forms part of a major 3-year study of the NHS on decentralisation and the impact on inter-organisational relationships at local levels. ‘Leadership and Better Patient Care: from Idea to Practice’ was the title of a presentation given by Professor Yiannis Gabriel on 5th December 2007. Professor Yiannis, a member of Royal Holloway’s School of Management, examined current ideas in leadership theory, exploring them through a research project in three London hospitals. For those unable to attend the event, both the slides and a video presentation have been made available.

ILMH's current funding nears £1.4 million
ILMH has secured its fourth funding agreement with the National Institute for Health Research Service Delivery and Organisation Programme (SDO), bringing its current sponsorship awards to almost £1.4 million. Professor Christine Edwards (KU) and Dr Steven Gillard
(SGUL) successfully secured £300,000 for a study entitled 'Understanding the barriers and
facilitators of effective implementation of self-care in mental health trusts'.

Dr Mark Exworthy invited to speak at a Fabian Society seminar
