WelcomeThe Interprofessional Institute (IPI) provides the focus for leading interprofessional developments in practice, education and research generated by the Alliance's partners within the broad field of health and social care.

IPI works with external stakeholders and across disciplines to maximise expertise and potential in the partner institutions to promote new roles and learning pathways for practice, academic and research careers. The Institute will undertake collaborative research that advances knowledge of interprofessional work and collaborative practice and uses a variety of conceptual, empirical and methodological approaches.

Affiliates of IPI come from a range of disciplines, including healthcare informatics, sociology, policy, health sciences and the health and social care professions (medicine, nursing, midwifery, radiography, physiotherapy, social work).

IPI particularly supports the contribution of social science in health and social care research and is keen to develop collaborative partnerships in the community for research, teaching and enterprise.

IPI's aims are to establish:

  • An international and regional centre of excellence for interprofessional research, practice and learning
  • New pathways for learning and new roles in health and social care, from foundation degree to taught doctorates
  • Interprofessional research, development and consultancy.

Current IPI activities include:

  • The Clearing House for research on interprofessionalism
  • Small Grant projects
  • Formation of a Social Science network.

If you would like further information on any of IPI's activities, please contact: ipi@swlacademicnetwork.ac.uk. Alternatively, please download an IPI brochure and/or a copy of the 2008/09 IPI annual report.

SWan launches its first Social Science Academics' Network.
