Dear Colleagues,

We have decided to develop a network of Social Science academics (under the IPI SWan umbrella) across the three HEIs in SWan, as a way of showcasing the potential social science contributions in health. We are aware that there are many academics with social science interests, who do not all necessarily reside within designated social science departments/schools or faculties. Their contributions could be enhanced through a network that facilitates better collaboration and a more co-ordinated way of forming partnerships with the local community, especially with new initiatives like the Academic Health and Social Care Network (AHSCN) (a partnership for education and research being developed between St George's and local trust and authorities).

By way of starting, we would like to compile a list of people (who consider themselves to work from a social science perspective and are interested in, or potentially interested in, health), with some brief details about their interests and expertise. We would then put this onto a website linked with SWan, with relevant links to people's existing websites.

If you consider yourself to be one of this group (the group includes staff with professional (eg. health, social care, management) qualifications but who work using social science perspectives), please complete and email back the details below.

Please forward this email onto anyone else you know who you think might be interested.

DETAILS FOR NETWORK WEBSITE

1. Please write 100 words (max.) on your social science approach ie. the theoretical basis of your interest/expertise in social science and how you see your (potential) contribution to health. (NB. you do not need to have worked specifically on health issues, but it would be helpful if you could spell out how you might see your work as applicable in health settings).

2. Please list up to 3 of your key publications and current research projects (up to 3).

3. Give your website url.

4. Pleae indicate whether you would like to be identified with an equality and diversity research grouping.

Please send your response to Laura Law (laura.law@rhul.ac.uk)

Thanks so much for your interest.
